Kill Bill Vol. 1 Blu-ray Review

Kill Bill Vol. 1 Blu-ray Review
Written by Loys Johnson

Kill Bill Vol. 1 Debuts on Blu-ray on a BD-50 with a 1080p AVC/MPEG-4 video transfer. The release is fantastic, and definitely one of the best catalog releases I have seen on the Blu-ray format so far. The colors in the film are very vibrant, and leap off the screen. Black levels are nice and deep, and detail is always very impressive. I can't say enough about the level of detail, it's just incredible. There were a few bits (mostly the animated sequence) that were a bit weaker than the overall presentation, but still quite good. 9.5/10

The Blu-ray release is given 5.1 Uncompressed PCM audio that sounds fantastic. One of the strongest audio tracks I have heard on Blu-ray for sure. From the very beginning of the film it impresses. The audio was so good it was chilling, and it fits the film amazingly. The screams, the breathing, the music, the action, the dialogue, it all impresses. There was honestly nothing wrong I could find with the audio presentation, it literally gave me chills at how amazing it sounded. 10/10

The Making Of Kill Bill (22:05)
The ''5,6,7,8's' Musical Performances (5:51)
Tarantino Trailers:
Reservoir Dogs (1:36)
Pulp Fiction (2:40)
Jackie Brown (2:17)
Kill Bill Vol. 1 Teaser (1:50)
Kill Bill Vol. 1 Bootleg Trailer (2:33)
Kill Bill Vol 2. Teaser (:57)

The extras are all presented in standard definition, which was a bit of a disappointment. The making of was the most entertaining. The musical performances were a bit pointless, although it was cool to include trailers for Kill Bill as well as other Tarantino films. 4/10

Blu-news Summary
To be honest, I always thought Kill Bill looked ridiculous, but never actually viewed the film. The Blu-ray is my first real experience into the Kill Bill universe, and it's just amazing. The acting was very good, and the story is a great ride, filled with awesome fight sequences, and gore to the maximum. The video presentation is almost perfection, with very little distracting, if at all distracting. The audio is demo material, and one of the best audio tracks I have heard on the Blu-ray format. The extras were a bit lacking, but still managed to port all the extras from the DVD release. Kill Bill Vol. 1 is incredible, and show's why Blu-ray really is the look and sound of perfect. 'Highly Recommended.'
