Sweeney Todd Blu-ray Review

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street Blu-ray Review
Written by Loys Johnson

Video
Sweeney Todd comes to Blu-ray with a fantastic 1080p VC-1 video presentation. The transfer is very impressive for this dark film, with detail being far stronger than I expected. The black levels on the release were deep and bold. Grain is minimal, and never felt intrusive more than a few seconds in the entire film. 'By The Sea' switches the dark style of the film for a more colorful outlook on life, and looks equally impressive with fantastic detail and vibrant colors. 9/10.

Audio
Paramount has included a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio track for the release, and it sounds fantastic. Musicals on Blu-ray demand lossless audio, and luckily Paramount included one. Let's hope Paramount/Dreamworks eventually re-releases Dreamgirls with a lossless track, with the same message going to Warner for The Phantom Of The Opera. Dialogue is always very clear, and the music makes an amazing use of the surround speakers, each song sounded remarkable. Sweeney Todd is sure to please. 9/10.

Blu-news Summary
Tim Burton has created another piece of movie magic with the film, it has an enjoyable cast, not to mention an extremely entertaining story. Fans of musicals and fans of Burton should check out the film as soon as they can. The Blu-ray release is amazing, with impressive video and audio, as well as mostly high-definition extras. Sweeney Todd may not be for everyone, but overall I say 'Highly Recommended.'
