High School Musical 3: Senior Year Blu-ray Review

Disc Size: 37.9 GB
Film Size: 21.9 GB
Film Rating: G
Region A

High School Musical 3 comes to Blu-ray with a 1080p AVC/MPEG-4 video presentation. The high-def presentation is nothing short of stunning, and one that is sure to impress. Detail is fantastic from facial details to clothing detail. Colors are rich and vibrant in this already colorful film. Black levels are nice and deep from beginning to end. The film is new, so the print is free of any dirt and specks. Senior Year makes for a terrific high-def presentation. The DVD really can't compete with the Blu-ray when compared, and this is the only way High School Musical 3 should be seen. 10/10

A 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track is included, and sounds very nice. The series has never made too much use of the surround speakers, and High School Musical 3 while improved still is the same way. Dialogue stays front and center, and expands to the surround for certain musical numbers. Music stays front heavy, but at times gets more into the surround area. I popped in the DVD to compare, and the results are actually quite significant when it comes to difference. The DVD sounds very limited, and actually quite muddy at times. While the Blu-ray manages to makes everything sound so much more defined and clear. This track is very nice, and is sure to please fans. 9/10

We get a Sing Along Mode for those who just can't help but sing along with the film, although it's not a feature I will be using anytime soon. The deleted scenes are actually pretty good, and all in high-def as well. We also get bloopers, and a few featurettes about the dance, the new cast members, with a bit of behind-the-scenes mixed in. Also included is BD-Live, which is currently not active. BD-Live will include Movie Chat, Movie Challenge, Disney Movie Rewards, and a BD-Live Photo Program. To top it off, Disney has included both a Disneyfile Digital Copy version as well as DVD copy of the film. 9/10

The Packaging:
High School Musical 3 comes to Blu-ray in a 3-disc edition. The case is 1 1/2 times the size of a regular Blu-ray case. Other films to previously use this case include Wall-E, as well as Prince Caspian. Also included is a slip cover with a blue background behind the characters, while the actual cover art has a white background.

Blu-news Summary
I had the amazing opportunity to be on set quite a bit during the filming, and I really got to see just how passionate Kenny Ortega and the cast were about this film. Kenny Ortega filmed hours upon hours of footage, and would spend hours if not days on certain scenes. The deleted poster scene for instance took 3 hours, and was only about 15 seconds of footage. It's not to say the actors were messing up, but rather he wanted to keep doing it until it was just right.

The final product may not have the most amazing story, but if you really look at each scene, look how fantastic they are. The sets are fantastic, the lighting is great, the actors are at the top of their game, and it all comes together very well. High School Musical 3 is the biggest film of the series, and certainly better than the film we call High School Musical 2. Increased production values definitely show, and really adds a lot to the musical aspect of the film.

The Blu-ray release is fantastic, featuring impressive video and audio, and a nice amount of extras. High School Musical 3 on Blu-ray is a 'Must Own For Fans.'

Loys, as far as the extra content, is there ANYTHING that has the deleted shower scenes of Zac Efron? Mentioned anywhere even? Thanks!

There were not any Zac Efron shower scenes in the deleted scenes. I think I remember hearing about that though.
