High School Musical comes to Blu-ray with a 1080p AVC/MPEG-4 video presentation. The film is released on home video for the first time in it's original 1:78:1 aspect ratio. We get the whole picture this time around, and it looks fantastic. Detail is great, colors are fantastic, and everything is so much clearer and sharper. Fans should upgrade this to see it in it's original aspect ratio alone, but it doesn't hurt that the high-def presentation is impressive as well. 8/10.

A 5.1 Uncompressed PCM audio track is included, and is also much clearer than the DVD's Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. The audio is very front heavy, with dialogue and vocals coming through front and center. The film's music is aggressive on the front right and left speakers, but never really expands much into the surround area. The surround area is used very lightly, but there is still use for crowds and sound effects, it's hard to expect too much from the made-for-tv musical. This track is actually much clearer than the DVD audio track, and will surely please fans. 8/10.

'I Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You' Music Video (2:59) (SD)
'We're All In This Together' Music Video (1:34) (SD)
'Breaking Free (Remix)' Music Video (3:10) (SD)
'We're All In This Together (Remix)' Music Video (4:00) (SD)
'Eres Tu' Music Video (2:14) (SD)
Sing Along With The Movie
Bringing It All Together: The Making Of High School Musical (8:43) (SD)
Learning The Moves (4:07) (SD)
Hollywood Premiere (2:23) (SD)
A High School Reunion (5:51) (SD)
Disney Channel Dance Alongs (16:36) (SD)

All extras are presented in standard definition, and there's really not much there despite this being the deluxe version of the film. We get a few music videos which features clips from the film, as well as in-studio video. Sing Along With The Movie turns on the lyrics as the song plays in the film. The short featurettes are all pretty much promotional material, but still alright. 4.5/10.

Blu-news Summary
High School Musical is the film that started it all for the series, and pretty much the best film of the three. The story isn't really anything new, but many people have come to love it. The basketball star, and the equations geek 'unexpectedly' come together to share their love of music, and find other forms of love in between. The title says it all, it's a musical, and if you don't like musicals, this will certainly make you hate them more. To those that do enjoy musicals, this isn't going to be amazing, but a film that both kids and parents can really enjoy.

The Blu-ray release is fantastic, featuring a top notch video presentation, as well as a good audio track. The difference is quite signficant in both Blu-ray presentation, and aspect ratio. Extras are all ported over from the deluxe DVD version, so there's nothing lost in this release. High School Musical on Blu-ray is 'Highly Recommended For Fans.'
