Twilight Blu-ray Review

Twilight Blu-ray Review
Written by Loys Johnson
Disc Size: 44.6 GB
Film Size: 30.3 GB
Film Rating: PG-13
Region: A

Twilight comes to Blu-ray with a 1080p AVC/MPEG-4 video presentation. The film has a muted style throughout the film, but it translates very well to Blu-ray. Detail was very impressive, which also hurts the film a bit when it comes to makeup being a little too obvious. Colors are as rich as the style allows, and black levels are solid throughout. 8/10.

Summit has included a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track for the Blu-ray release. The track was surprisingly front heavy, but not bad. I felt the track could have made a more effective surround use for certain scenes in the film. Dialogue is front and center, and clear as can be. The majority of effects stay within the front and left speaker, but were clear and effective. The film's score makes a good use of the surround speakers at times. 7.5/10.

Audio commentary with Catherine Hardwicke, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart
The audio commentary is pretty fun, they all have quite a bit to say. Both serious and funny. Fans should definitely check it out.

Music Videos with introductions (13:42) (SD) (HD)
Muse - 'Supermassive Black Hole' Music Video (SD) with introduction (HD)

Paramore - 'Decode' Music Video (SD) with introduction (SD)

Linkin Park - 'Leave Out All The Rest' Music Video (SD)

Extended Scenes (9:36) (HD)
Five extended scenes are included, and each feature introductions by Director Catherine Hardwicke. She explains these were cut because they made the film slow down in pace. For big fans only, otherwise not so entertaining.

Deleted Scenes (5:53) (HD)
Five deleted scenes are included, and each feature introductions by Director Catherine Hardwicke. A couple of the scenes were interesting, but definitely not anything that should have been in the film. Fans should enjoy them.

The Adventure Begins: The Journey From Page To Screen (Picture-in-Picture Track Version)
Watch the featurettes during the film, put into scenes where the footage relates.

The Adventure Begins: The Journey From Page To Screen (Standard Version) (54:29) (HD):
The Beginning The Partnership: A Look At Pre-Production
The Vampires

Capturing The Action: A Look At Production

Vampire Baseball

The Final Word On The Final Battle
Putting It All Together: The Magic Of Post-Production

I was very impressed by the content here, it was all very in-depth and entertaining. The special effects in the film are amazing, and they explain how they did many things. Also pointed out was that there was no green screen used in the film, which made it even more awesome to see how they did it. Takes a look at pre-production, filming, and what was added after they filmed.

The Comic-Con Phenomenon (7:57) (SD)
Shows the many fans of the book as they anticipate the theatrical release of the film by asking questions, features the cast of the film, as well as others involved.

Theatrical Campaign (12:22) (HD)
Five trailers are included, the 'Penelope' sneak peak, the Comic-Con sneak peek, teaser trailer #1, teaser trailer #2, and the final trailer.

Summit has included BD-Live, but content is currently unavailable.

Blu-news Summary
Twilight was definitely better than I expected it to be, but it was far from perfect either. Those looking for a top notch vampire film, you won't get it here. But the film should please fans of the book, both adults and tweens. The film has it's share of cheesy moments, but I still enjoyed it. The story kept me entertained despite it's faults, and the effects in the film were certainly impressive. If the film doesn't interest you, I would suggest giving it a rent at best though.

The Blu-ray release is great, featuring impressive video, good audio, and a nice in-depth selection of extras. Twilight is a 'Must Own For Fans', and to all others who are interested I would say it's 'Worth A Look.'

I'm convinced that Summit has officially send this to EVERYONE but me. Oh well, they just screwed themselves out of getting it covered. Either way, nice review.
