"You see Hopper, Nature has a certain order. The ants pick the food, the ants keep the food, and the grasshoppers leave! " - Princess Atta

Video
A Bug's Life comes to Blu-ray with a 1080p AVC/MPEG-4 video presentation. The film looks even better than I expected it to be. Pixar clearly put a lot of work into A Bug's Life that has never been seen until now. The textures on the characters and environments are simply stunning. The upgrade from DVD is also very significant, featuring so much more detail and vibrant colors. A Bug's Life is gorgeous on Blu-ray, it's hard to tell it's been 10 years. 10/10.

Audio
A 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track is included, and I found it very nice. I wouldn't call the track demo material by any means, but it certainly has some great direction and clarity. Dialogue is clear, front and center. With effects traveling throughout the front and left speakers, as well as surround speakers. It's very impressive at times, and it sounds about as good as possible. 9/10.

Extras

Geri's Game (4:55) (HD)
The popular Pixar short Geri's Game is included, and looks fantastic.

Filmmakers' Roundtable (21:00) (HD)
Roundtable featuring John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Darla Anderson and Kevin Reher. This is a new feature exclusive to the Blu-ray release, as they look back 10 years. They have some great stories, and any fan of the film should check this out.

A Bug's Life - The First Draft (10:49) (HD)
Includes introduction by John Lasseter. It's a very neat animated version of the original story.

A Walt Disney Silly Symphony: Grasshopper and the Ants (1934) (8:15) (HD)
Includes introduction (SD) by John Lasseter and Andrew Stanton. The Silly Symphony is presented for the first time in high definition, but the source used is fairly dirty. Regardless it's still nice that it was included.

Audio Commentary (1:34:45)
Commentary by John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich.

Pre-Production (SD)
Includes introductions. Included sections are fleebie reel, story and editorial, storyboard-to-film comparison, abandoned sequences, and research documentary.

Design (SD)
Includes introduction by John Lasseter, features an image gallery.

Production (SD)
Includes 'Behind The Scenes Of A Bug's Life', 'Voice Casting', 'Early Tests'. Also includes the following progression demonstrations: storyreel, layout, animation, and shaders and lighting.

Sound Design (13:07) (SD)
Includes Sound Design Featurette.

Release (SD)
Posters and ad campaigns, 2 trailers, and character interviews.

Outtakes (SD)
Includes the story behind the outtakes, original outtakes, and alternate outtakes.

BD-Live (Currently unavailable)

Digital Copy (Compatible with iTunes and Windows Media)

Free movie ticket included for Disney - Pixar's 'Up'.

Blu-news Summary
A Bug's Life has always had a special place in my heart among the Pixar films, and it's a shame it's often times at the bottom of people's favorites list when it comes to Pixar titles. The film features some extremely fantastic characters, and a great story to boot. I've always loved it, and I'm sure most would at least like it.

The Blu-ray release is fantastic, featuring stunning video, great audio, and a ton of extras. This is the ultimate A Bug's Life package. For fans of the film, there is no question that this is 'A Must Own.'
